Delon’s Path to a New Career
Delon moved to Tampa with his wife looking for a fresh start. Despite his background working as an electrician helper and in other hands-on roles, he struggled to find full-time employment for nearly six months after relocating. Frustrated but determined, Delon discovered the PATH Training program at Tampa Vocational Institute and enrolled in the Introduction to Green Construction course.
“What drew me in was all the certifications,” Delon shared. “I knew earning those credentials would boost my chances and help me grow in the field I already had experience in.”
Delon’s instincts were right. Upon completing the course—equipped with industry-recognized certifications like OSHA 30 and NCCER Core—he applied for a position with JD Power. Not only was he hired, but the employer specifically mentioned that his certifications played a key role in their decision. His OSHA 30 training and NCCER Core credentials were especially valuable as JD Power was performing work at Tampa International Airport, where these certifications were a requirement.
Thanks to his preparation through the course, Delon was able to enter JD Power’s Registered Apprenticeship Program immediately. He started at an impressive $29.00 per hour—putting him firmly back on track toward a stable and rewarding career.
Delon’s story is a powerful reminder of how the right training and support can open doors to meaningful opportunities.
