History

Tampa Vocational Institute is a division of the Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc., (formerly Lee Davis Neighborhood Development Corporation) was incorporated in 1992 for the purpose of alleviating poverty and physical deterioration in Hillsborough County’s East Tampa community. This community consisting of many neighborhoods was plagued with dilapidated, overcrowded housing and high rates of poverty, unemployment, teen pregnancy, school dropout/suspension and drug abuse.

In 2011, the Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc., Inc. formed the Tampa Vocational Institute to address the training needs for local area businesses and individuals. The Institute was a result of an increased demand for quick and effective career training with immediate results rather than a long, drawn-out study program.
